The little girls dream comes true...
Joanne Merme Herrera a daughter of a humble parents "Mr. Homer Herrera and Engr. Gemma T. Herrera" who immigrated in Australia twenty one years ago. They happen to have a little girl who started shy but have an active mind and have ambition in life. Their little girl started her training in dancing at the age of 5. She was a consistent Physical Culture Champion Girl and had always been in the finals for Opera House Performances. She has been in local newspapers for her achievements.
She also did gymnastics and won the regional competition and represented the Gymnastic State Championship at Homebush. She was also a consistent gymnast and won several achievement awards. At the age of 9 she was accepted to train gymnastics for 2004 Olympic but at the same time her interest is also to play the harp instrument. She had to choose between gymnastics and harp. Being an independent child she chose to train with the harp instrument. Since she was not doing a serious gymnastics anymore she decided to do serious dance classes and at the same time doing some subject tuition. She is a busy girl and has always wanted to do everything. She was doing multiple activities and her mother and father used to drive her everywhere. One moment in the car on the way to her lesson when she was only little she told her parents that "One day I will have my own school that could provide dance, music and education to parents to save them driving around"
Joanne Herrera was born and raised in Sydney, Australia. She has accomplished a list of dance industry performances and worked with top choreographers in Australia gaining knowledge and experience by working with top professionals in the industry of dance.
Starting at 6 years of age, she became a Physical Culture Champion Girl for 10 years competing at the Nationals held annually at the Sydney Opera House. She also shared an interest in learning and playing classical harp music. Another love was Hip Hop music- and from then started choreographing for school and later starting a dance krew outside of school. She then decided her love for dance grew and at 13 took up training in jazz, tap, contemporary and completed her Royal Academy of Dance Certificate receiving Credit with the help of one of the ex-Australian Ballet company dancer training at Robyn Kirkland School of Ballet. Later Joanne completed a Full-Time Dance Scholarship at Urban Dance Centre under Juliette JET Verne and faculty. At the same time graduated in a Bachelor of music Majoring in Classical Harp Performance at The Australian Institute of Music, Sydney and was lucky enough to play as Guest with Sydney Youth Orchestra for LEGS11 and Queen Mary II cruise ship celebrations and has continued performing at Weddings and also teaching the harp.
While completing her degree and scholarship she also kept dancing starting another dance krew GIGABEATZ who have performed for 2PAC’s The Outlawz Sydney Tour and Urban Music Awards, also entering in major hip hop competitions. At the same time Joanne was teaching dance hiring at a local hall since 2004, which ended up growing numbers and lead to open a dance, music, tutor studio DANCE2MUSIC Australia.
In dancing and performing, she has toured and trained in LA, New York and Vegas. Some credits include dancing for Rhys Bobridge (So You Think You Can Dance Runner Up), Marcia & Deni Hines (Australian Idol Grand Finale Performance), featuring in television shows and commercials for The FOOTY Show, Mornings with Kerri-Anne, ABC’s The Chasers and a featured dancer on So You Think You Can Dance Australia making it through to the Top 40 Dancers in Australia. She has also featured in Music videos of Cassie Davis, D-Minus and Nikki Webster. Also various dance gigs for Yes OPTUS, Champion Sportswear, Freestyle Magazines NIGHTSHIFT, Auto Salon, and performing podium gigs in various clubs all around Sydney.
She has been taught and influenced by world class teachers and choreographers such as SWOOP (Aaliyah’s Choreographer), BSHAW (Chris Brown’s Dancer), Chris Jones (You Got Served), Andre Fuentes (Britney Spear’s Choreographer), Tony Czar (New Kids on The Block Choreographer), Tucker Barkley (Janet Jackson’s Dancer), Kimberly Wyatt (Pussycat Dolls), Dominic D-Trix Sandoval (So You Think You Can Dance America Season 3 & America’s Best Dance Krew Winner QUEST KREW) Marc Marvelous (Usher’s OMG Tour Choreographer and Dance Captain), Dennis McKinley (Missy Elliott’s Tour Dancer), Shirlene Quigley (Beyonce’s Dancer).
Joanne has also produced and choreographed her own show casting an elite group of dancers named PURE ESSENCE Dancers where she was able to really use her creativity and training and showcase to the public.
